Terms of Service

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Iploc API and associated tools at iploc.ai ("Service"), operated by Iploc ("we", "us", "our"). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms.

1. Acceptance

By creating an account, generating an API key, or using any of our free tools, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service. If you are using the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization.

2. Description of Service

Iploc provides an IP geolocation API that returns geographic and network information for IP addresses. We also provide free public tools (IP lookup, DNS lookup, port scanner, etc.) that use the same underlying data. The API requires authentication via API key; public tools are rate-limited by visitor IP.

3. Accounts and API Keys

  • You must provide a valid email address to create an account
  • You are responsible for maintaining the security of your API keys
  • Do not share API keys or use keys belonging to others
  • Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorized use of your key
  • We may disable keys that appear compromised

4. API Usage and Rate Limits

Each plan has defined rate limits (requests per day and per month). Exceeding your plan's limits may result in throttled responses (HTTP 429). Paid plans allow overage billing as described in your plan details. Free tier usage is hard-capped with no overage.

API responses may be cached by you for up to 24 hours. You may not redistribute our raw database or create a competing geolocation service using our API data.

5. Fair Use and Prohibited Uses

You may not use the Service to:

  • Build or operate a competing IP geolocation API or database
  • Systematically scrape or bulk-download our geolocation data
  • Circumvent rate limits or authentication mechanisms
  • Send abusive, automated, or excessive requests designed to degrade service
  • Use the data for unlawful discrimination, surveillance, or stalking
  • Reverse-engineer our data merge methodology or proprietary algorithms
  • Resell API access without written permission
  • Use the port scanner or ping tool against systems you do not own or have authorization to test

6. Data Accuracy

IP geolocation is inherently approximate. We provide confidence scores per field to indicate data quality. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of geolocation data. You should not rely solely on IP geolocation for critical decisions (law enforcement, financial compliance, emergency services). See our Privacy Policy for how we handle data.

7. Intellectual Property

The Iploc API, documentation, merged geolocation database, and all associated tools are our intellectual property. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, revocable license to use the API as described in your plan. This license does not include the right to distribute, sublicense, or create derivative works from our database.

8. Payment and Billing

Paid plans are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. By subscribing, you authorize recurring charges. You can cancel at any time through the billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. Refunds are handled on a case-by-case basis. Overages are billed at the rates specified in your plan.

9. Service Availability

We aim for 99.9% uptime but do not guarantee uninterrupted service. Scheduled maintenance will be communicated in advance when possible. We are not liable for downtime caused by factors outside our control (network outages, DDoS attacks, force majeure).

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Iploc shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, data loss, or business interruption, arising from your use of the Service. Our total liability for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.

11. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.

12. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, engage in prohibited uses, or fail to pay for your plan. You may delete your account at any time. Upon termination, your API keys are immediately deactivated and your data is deleted per our retention policy.

13. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated via email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance.

14. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of France. Any disputes shall be resolved in the courts of Paris, France.
